What is a Chaffle?
Chaffles are the new rave in the keto world. Just like the Fathead Dough was a few years back.
I literally just got to know about Chaffles a few days ago in one of the keto Facebook groups I am in. Now I see Chaffles every where with loads of variations to the traditional recipe which is simply a mix of eggs and cheese.
So what's a chaffle? I believe the name chaffles was coined from a combination of cheese and waffles. A Chaffle is a keto waffle made with eggs and cheese. One of the easiest keto recipes you will ever make.
What do I need to make Keto chaffles?
Besides the egg and cheese, you would need to have a waffle iron, I love to use this Dash mini waffle maker because it's cute and has the perfect size for my needs.
The kids love them so much I bought one for each of them ( Tbh I found the perfect excuse to buy three of these 🙈 two waffle makers and one pancake maker. ) But honestly they do come in handy for making pancakes and waffles. Now I am glad I have them to make chaffles with.
And the kids can make their pancakes without Turning on the stove. ( I still supervise my younger ones but my teenage son is good to go)
You can use a regular waffle iron if that's what you have but it would make larger portions. I love the Dash mini waffle maker because it makes perfect waffle/ Pancake/ Chaffle portions of 4 inch diameter.
If you are making waffles or chaffles for a larger family this multi waffle maker will come in handy and save you time. It makes four 3 inch waffles at a time.
If you would rather have a square shaped chaffle then this waffle maker would be perfect for you and makes two waffles at a time.
Now that we have our choice of waffle maker sorted, let's dive into how to make these Chaffles.

How to make Keto chaffles.
Chaffles are a simple combination of eggs and cheese are a ratio of 1 egg to ½ a cup of cheese. This recipe makes 1 serving of 2 4 inch diameter chaffles which you can easily use a base for a good keto sandwich.
You can easily double the recipe using the chart below
- To make these chaffles, turn on the Dash mini waffle maker
- Crack egg(s) into a bowl,
- Measure your Shredded Cheese of choice then mix it with the egg and whisk to combine.
- Pour 2 to 3 Tablespoons of egg cheese-egg mix into preheated waffle maker. ( if waffle maker is too full it would spill over. )*
- Cover the waffle maker and let the Chaffle cook for up to 3 mins.
* If your waffle maker is new and you are using it for the first time, you need to discard the first waffle made with the new waffle maker.
What kind of Cheese do you need to make Chaffles?
I like to use cheddar cheese and Monterey Jack for savory based cheese waffles and Mozzarella and Provolone Cheese for sweet ones.
Shredded Cheese is the best to make these and you can easily shred your block cheese at home like I did using a box grater or a Safe grater.
What to eat Chaffles with.
Chaffles are a great base breakfast. You can have then with scrambled eggs and bacon. Or just as is with a dollop of Homemade marinara sauce or Rao’s Marinara Sauce especially if your Chaffle is savory.
This recipe featured in this post is for sweet Chaffles. For sweet Chaffles I like to use provolone or mozzarella cheese and serve with some whipped cream, berries and of course some Sugar free syrup.
Any sugar free syrup would be perfect. I love to use the following brands.
Want to make these chaffles for a Valentine Breakfast Treat, then this heart shaped waffle maker will wow your loved ones. Just like the multi waffle maker, it makes four waffles at a time.
You can also use this Dash mini heart waffles maker for a slightly larger heart shaped waffle size.
How do Chaffles taste?
The savory version ( made with cheddar cheese) tastes more like cheesy eggs than the sweet ones made with mozzarella cheese and sweetener. The trick is to let them crisp up a bit in the waffle maker and you are good.
Are Chaffles Crispy?
The Longer the Chaffles stay in the mini waffle maker, the crisper it gets. Takes about 3 to 4 minutes to crisp up. It also crisps up some more as it cools.
Quick tip:
Do not open the waffle iron before 3 minutes, the Chaffle May stick to the top of the waffle maker and tear.
