What do I need to make this Homemade Bagel Seasoning?

Like I said you need just 5 ingredients (actually 6 if you include the salt) and about 4 or 5 mins of your time to whip this up. These ingredients are

    • White Sesame seeds*
    • Black Sesame seeds*
    • Poppy seeds
    • Dry Onion flakes (not onion powder)
    • Dry Garlic flakes (not garlic powder)
    • Sea Salt flakes

*You can also buy this mix of black and white sesame seeds if your prefer. Pretty mix huh!?

FAQs on Homemade Everything Bagel Seasoning

    Q. Can I use Onion Powder instead of onion flakes?

    A. Unfortunately you can't. The onion powder will sink to the bottom and won't blend in nicely with the seasoning blend. But Fortunately onion flakes can easily be found in stores.

    Q. I can't find Garlic flakes in stores Can I use Garlic powder instead?

    A. You can't swap out Garlic flakes with garlic powder for the same reason above. It will settle in the bottom. I know Garlic flakes isn't readily available in stores but can be bought online. I bought mine on amazon.

    Q. Can I swap Garlic salt for the combination of Garlic flakes and salt in this recipe?

    A. That's a no no. It would be way too salty and would sink to the bottom.

    Q. Can't find black sesame seeds in store Do I have to use both black and white sesame seeds to make this recipe?

    A. You don't have to use both colors of sesame seeds but it is recommended that you do if you want the exact look of the Trader Joe's version. White sesame seeds are more readily available in store. You can buy black sesame seeds online or you can buy this black and white sesame seed blend.

    Q. I can't find sea salt flakes, can I swap with regular table salt?

    A. Sadly you can't that would be a disaster ? but you can swap the sea salt flakes with coarse salt.

    Q. What can I use this everything bagel seasoning for?

    A. Like the name says, Everything and Anything you like.

    • Bagels of course
    • Salads
    • Avocado Toast
    • On Fried eggs

    Q. How can I store my homemade everything bagel seasoning?

    A. Store in an airtight container on the counter or shelf. I usually store mine in this jar.

    Ingredients

    • 2 tablespoon White Sesame Seeds* (see note 1)
    • 2 tablespoon Black Sesame seeds*
    • 1 ½ tablespoon Poppy seeds
    • 1 ½ tablespoon dried onion flakes
    • 1 ½ tablespoon dried garlic flakes
    • ½ tablespoon sea salt flakes or coarse salt.

    Instructions

    • Mix all the ingedients together in a clean dry bowl. Store in an airtight container.

    Notes

    1. If using the black and white sesame seed mix, use 4 tablespoon for this blend.
    2. When buying individual ingredients, try to buy ingredients with expiry dates that are close to each one's expiry date. So you don't end up with a seasoning blend with one ingredients expiring long before others.
