Keto French Toast; What is a French toast

French toast is generally a meal of sliced bread that has been soaked in eggs and milk and pan fried. French Toast is also known as Eggy bread, Bombay Toast, German Toast and Gypsy Toast. Keto French Toast is simply the keto version made with keto friendly ingredients like keto bread.

Is French Toast Keto?

Traditional French toast isn’t Keto because it’s made from a non keto bread that is dipped in eggs, non keto milk, and topped with non keto maple syrup and regular powdered sugar.

This keto French toast is made with keto friendly wholesome ingredients like my most popular bread recipe here on the blog, and dipped in eggs and heavy cream before being fried and served with warm sugar free maple syrup. Yum!

Quick Recipe Notes and Tips

  • If using any of the store bought aka commercially produced low carb/keto breads, it helps to leave it out on the counter over night to make it firmer when you dip it into the egg mixture
  • If using homemade keto bread, don’t use when it’s still warm because it’s softer.
  • When slicing the homemade bread, make fatter but not humongous slices.
  • Frying with butter is best because of it’s taste but remember butter tends to burn faster so get your egg dip and bread ready for a faster process.
  • If using butter, Remember to wipe down the surface of your griddle after each batch because there will be some burnt butter residue.
  • If you don’t want to use butter, coconut oil or avocado oil will work as well. I recommend this oil bottle spray for oil not the non stick cooking sprays

  3. Hi again, just a little confused on nutrition values of this one Chichi. The label at the end of the post indicates 0.5 net carbs per cooked French toast, but in your post it says 3 net carbs – is this figure for the whole 6 servings (0.5 x 6). Not sure if this is an error either way, because a slice of your lovely low carb toast on its own is 2.5 net carbs. Can you clarify please.
    Much thanks,
    Cc

    1. Hi Cc,

Sorry for the confusion. Let me clarify. I mentioned in the notes section of the recipe card that the nutrition fact calculated was just for the egg mixture (0.5 Net carbs) since the overall nutrition fact will depend on the low carb bread used.

However, if my low bread bread were to be used, the nutrition fact would 3 net carbs. (the 2.5 from the bread + the 0.5 from the egg mixture) Hope that helps.

I should add it to the body of the post so it would be more visible for others. Thank you for asking this question. Feel free to reach out if you still have more questions. I am always happy to help. 😊

      – Chichi
